This page is for carriers in our branch, to get a better understanding of the over time list. I know that this has been discussed in the past but it amazes me, some of the questions and statements made by carriers, which leads me to believe that it needs more explanation.
One of the things I would like to make clear is that management does not have to bring anyone in on overtime in a quarter. One of the questions asked of me is, "how many times do I get to work in a quarter"?. If management brings people in on there non-scheduled day to work overtime, then they must abide by Article 8 Section 5, c.2.b., which states, during the quarter every effort will be made to distribute, equitably the opportunities for overtime among those on the overtime desired list.
Overtime work on your route, on your regular day does not get tracked towards equitablilty. But if you are asked to pivot off your route, then the time you spend doing that pivot is trackable. A carrier must make his desire known, whether he or she wishes to work overtime or not. They must place their name on either one of the three list available. The overtime undesired list, overtime desired or work assignment list. You can only put your name on one list and it should be done two weeks before the quarter starts.
The Overtime Undesired List. This means that you do not want to work any overtime during the quarter. You can not get off this list until the new quarter starts.
The Overtime Desire List. If you are on this list this means you want to work overtime. You can be asked to work overtime on your route, on your non-scheduled day even be told to pivot on someone elses route. You may take your name off this list at anytime, but you can not get back on until the new quarter starts. If on a given day you know you can not pivot, it would be in your best interest to inform management as soon as you punch in. This would give them the opportunity to find someone else to do the pivot. This does not, in any way, mean that they still won't ask you, but at least your making an effort to work with them and hopefully they will reciprocate.
The Work Assignment List. When you place your name on this list, you can only work overtime on you route, you cannot work on your non-scheduled day. A T6 would only work overtime on his assignment that day. An unassigned regular would be eligible for overtime on the assignment on which they are working on a given day. Just like the overtime list you can take your name off this list at any time, but you can not place your name on any list until the new quarter starts. You will be on the non-overtime list till you say you want back on a list in writing, for the new quarter.
I hope this page has helped you better understand how the overtime list and the tracking of
overtime works.
